Power
MW basis, firm availability, fuel and equipment dependencies, commissioning dates.
Consultation stage
An industry-led forum to develop open, voluntary standards for specifying, reserving and documenting forward power, data center, compute and fiber capacity.
As credible, deliverable future capacity becomes a scarce resource that buyers reserve and financiers lend against, common standards for how it is specified, evidenced and documented become far more valuable.
Today, forward reservations of power, data center, compute and fiber capacity are negotiated through fragmented bilateral processes, with limited common definitions of project readiness and few standardized reservation practices. Large forward commitments are difficult for buyers, lenders and insurers to evaluate on consistent terms.
Other emerging markets faced comparable challenges before industry associations helped establish the documentation, conventions and market practices that support institutional participation today.
Four connected forms of capacity, with initial work focused on common definitions and a readiness classification from concept to ready-for-service.
MW basis, firm availability, fuel and equipment dependencies, commissioning dates.
MW IT versus utility or generation MW, site readiness, cooling and delivery conditions.
Delivered capacity, commissioning milestones, service availability and reserved-capacity term.
Route, spectrum or bandwidth units, construction milestones, acceptance and ready-for-service.
The consultation is convened by 54 Projects LLC. 54 Projects operates Mazipan OS, which would be one potential implementer of IFDCA standards, alongside other platforms and market participants. Participation in the initiative would not require use of Mazipan OS or confer preferential commercial access.
